DIY Salt Spray for Beachy Waves

by Infused Essence

One of our favorite things about summer is that ocean-washed and sun-dried wavy hair look. Some of us don't have access to the ocean to dunk our heads into  and get that enviable look - so we have to use the resources we have at hand. Actually, I love using this easy DIY salt spray no matter what season it is because I’m generally just love that all natural soft wavy look. That and even the idea of using a salt spray makes me feel as though I'm living on a private tropical beach...hey, a girl can dream, right?

The Pink Himalayan and Epsom salt spray below is my go-to for that perfect “beachy” look. The essential oils not only smell great but also help to add a little extra texture and wave to the recipe. If you don’t have epsom salt, you can still make the recipe with the Pink Himalayan Salt or even Mediterranean Sea Salt.

Makes about 4 ounces.

Active Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup hot water
  • ¼ cup room temperature water
  • 1 Tbsp Epsom salt
  • 1 Tsp Himalayan pink salt
  • Infused Essence Peppermint oil
  • Infused Essence Rosemary Oil
  • Infused Essence Lavender Oil

Directions

Heat water until just warm enough to dissolve salt.

Transfer water into an 8 oz. amber glass bottle with screw cap.

Add salts and swirl to dissolve.

Add room temperature water. Let sit until liquid is room temperature (about 15 to 20 minutes), then and essential oil. Swirl to mix.

Use a funnel to pour into a 4oz.

How to Use Salt Spray Pro Tips:

  • SHAKE WELL before each use!

  • All sorts of hair types can enjoy the benefits of salt spray. Those with wavy hair often find that a spritz or two helps give their natural curl more definition and less frizz, while straight-haired individuals use the spray to loosen up their locks. We recommend starting with less spray if your hair already tends to twist, or more if it likes to play it straight.

  • All salt sprays are a bit drying, so you’ll get the best results when you apply to hair that already contains some of its natural oils. Avoid using directly after washing with a clarifying shampoo, or apply a conditioning cream or serum before spritzing with salt spray.

  • We find that this formula works best when applied to damp (not soaking wet) hair. If applying after a shower, comb hair through and let dry partway before application, and if not, spray dry hair with a plain water to moisten before using salt spray.

  • For natural, breezy waves, scrunch and let air dry, or blow dry with a diffuser attachment until almost, but not completely, dry.
