Carrier Oils and How to Use Them
Since essential oils are so concentrated, they are extremely potent, and like anything applied to your skin, they can potentially cause side effects, especially on people with sensitive skin.
These side effects are usually minor, such as itching or small rashes, but to make your essential oil experience as easy and effective as possible, it’s always a good idea to spot test the oil on a small area of skin to make sure you are not allergic, and won’t react negatively to the oil.
By mixing the essential oils with a carrier oil, these benefits can be enjoyed without any adverse side effects.
What Are Carrier Oils?
Jojoba oil has been used for centuries for its amazing moisturizing properties. Since it closely mimics the natural oils found in our own hair and skin, it can be used on any part of the body ( including your face!) without clogging pores or making the skin greasy. Its light, warm scent and low price point make it a perfect carrier oil.
In addition to its many health benefits, coconut oil is also a great moisturizer and a natural SPF. It’s subtle, sweet smell and long shelf life, plus amazing health benefits, make coconut oil an easy addition to both your kitchen AND your medicine cabinet.
Just like the nut from which it's derived, almond oil is high in vitamin E and has a rich, nutty scent. With vitamin A and fatty acids, almond oil soothes and moisturizes the skin, and combats skin problems as well as signs of aging. Light and fresh, it can be mixed with any essential oil to be applied anywhere on the body.
